Presence therapy

Advanced biopsychosocial therapy informed by neuroscience.

  • Body.

Our physical bodies impact our minds. Physical health, biological and genetic factors, and our current physiology influence our brains and how we think. Factors such as hormones, sleep, diet, disease and stress need to addressed in psychological work.

  • Mind.

The mind is our software that runs on the brain. All the years of learning and storing concepts and memories shape our perspective. By healing trauma, filling in blind spots, and developing a deeper resource of resilience, we can achieve greater integration.

  • Relationships.

Our most important relationships shape our well-being in profound ways. Research has consistently shown that the quality of our relationships can be even more significant to our health than diet and exercise. Learn how to deepen and improve them.

  • Community.

Our sense of place impacts our minds and how we perceive the world. From our neighborhood and the culture of our community, to our social network and how we feel at work, to systemic injustices and inequality, larger forces act on our minds in significant ways.

BODY

Biological factors influence the mind and sometimes act as a starting point to understand ourselves, our thinking, and how we can grow and improve. Genetic susceptibilities, organic factors such as neurodivergence, and physical health are all critical to how our psychology functions. In Presence Therapy® we consider your physical health, hormonal balance, and physiological factors such as sleep, diet and substance use in determining the best path forward.

MIND

Psychological work involves the full spectrum of growth, from stabilizing clients in crisis, to addressing mental health and substance issues, to optimizing mental function through trauma healing and greater integration. The goal is an open, flexible mind that can resource itself and carries both curiosity and resilience; a mind that can learn, fill in gaps and blind spots, and can easily mentalize and share life with others. For some, spirituality and existential resources may be part of the personal growth process, learning to be fully present in the moment with focus, energy, and clarity around your priorities.

relationships

Many have said that the most fulfilling aspect of life is the relationships we are able to form with others: the bonds we have with partners, children and family members, and the love we are able to feel and generate. These bonds and love sustain us and create a sense of meaning in our lives. It’s not enough to just have relationships, they are better when we learn how to connect more deeply, create safety, establish healthy habits, and invest in their growth. Relationships can truly be the greatest aspect of life when we can mine the value they have to offer and bring skills that make them healthy and fulfilling.

Community

Our minds, bodies, and relationships intersect to form our overall sense wellness, health and happiness, but what about the environment we live in? Despite sometimes wanting to be able to fully control our own domain of life, we are all influenced by the culture and people around us. We interact everyday with ideas, feelings and perspectives as we run errands, engage with our communities, and go to work. We are shaped by the families and culture we were raised in, the traumas we suffered, and the systemic soup of ideas we live in. Some of those forces comprise systemic oppression and generational messages around identity and power that shape our sense of ourselves and the world and affect us in powerful ways.

“mind, body, relationships and SYSTEMic factors intertwine to determine our wellness and mental health. when these components are working together we can optimize beyond functioning to create vibrant, healthy, and meaningful lives.”
